Malagas
A small historical village, the big tourism attraction is the Breede River. The river was one of the largest, most navigable rivers in South Africa. It was once used as a regular stop for steam boats transporting fruit, wine and provisions UP and down the wide river. Fishing and bird watching are very popular at the banks of the Breede River.
The pontoon or “pont”, as it is known locally, was first used in 1860. The present model, used since 1952, is the last operational pont in South Africa. It operates everyday during daylight hours.
